  • Successful completion of this course prepares the student for the national certification exam and entitles the student to a certification of completion from FTC. Topics covered include basic anatomy and physiology, medical terminology as it applies to the phlebotomist, ethical and customer service considerations, and safety and compliance issues. Students will learn how to perform routine veni-punctures by a variety of methods (including pediatrics), difficult phlebotomies, and collection of other types of laboratory specimens.  Students upon completion of the Phlebotomy Technician program are ready to join the work force as an entry-level Phlebotomy Technician.

    *Information technology proficiency is not required.

    To be considered for acceptance into the Phlebotomy Technician program, interested individuals must:

    • Student must be at least 17 years of age.
    • Submit application form and tuition/course fees in full.
    • Results of current Tuberculosis test (within 6 mos. prior to class start date maximum) must be provided to instructor the first night of class.
    • Attend Orientation Session prior to starting program.
    • A Social Security Number is required for enrollment.

    *Taking the AMCA Phlebotomy Technician certification exam is voluntary. THE NATIONAL EXAM IS NOT A REQUIREMENT FOR THE PROGRAM.  If you choose to take the national exam, you must submit a copy of your high school transcript/diploma or GED/HiSET transcript to the program coordinator by the first class to meet AMCA eligibility requirements.

  • Step 1

    Submit Application with Fee to Franklin Technology Center

    In order to be considered for admission into Franklin Technology Center, the first step in the process is to receive an application packet and complete the following

    • Read the program sheet
    • Review program cost sheet and keep a copy (Important: The school reserves the right to adjust program tuition and fees prior to the start of the program.)
    • Return signed application form, consent forms if applicable, and the $785(without certification test) or $910(with certification test) for course fee’s in full to the address below or submitted online at franklintechnologycenter.com. 

     

    Step 2

    Acceptance into Program

    The Program Coordinator will send out a letter of acceptance, personal email, or contact via phone upon acceptance into the program.

     

    Step 3

    Orientation

    All students will be required to attend orientation prior to the first day of class. Students will be contacted regarding program-specific orientation date, time and location after acceptance.

     

    Step 4

    Tuberculosis Test

    Results of CURRENT Tuberculosis test (within 6 months prior to class start date at maximum) MUST be submitted on the first night of class to your instructor.

     

    Step 5

    AMCA Certification

     You must be at least 17 years of age in order to enroll in the Phlebotomy Technician program. Taking the AMCA Phlebotomy Technician certification exam is voluntary. THE NATIONAL EXAM IS NOT A REQUIREMENT FOR THE PROGRAM. If you choose to take the national exam, you must submit a copy of your high school transcript/diploma or GED/HiSET transcript to the program coordinator by the first class to meet AMCA eligibility requirements.

    *Disclaimer: The programs and courses require a minimum number of students in order for the classes to be offered.

    1. Tuition and course fees of $785(without certification test) or $910(with certification test). 
    2. Students are required to wear scrubs to class at their own expense (no specific color or pattern). 
    3. Complete 60 hours of in-class instruction.
    4. Students must SUBMIT to venipuncture sticks and capillary sticks by fellow students.
    5. Must perform a minimum of 30 successful venipuncture and 10 capillary sticks on live individuals (for classroom completion)
    6. This course is not eligible for financial aid
    7. Program requires 90% attendance.
    8. Overall "C" course average to successfully complete.
    9. Refund Policy:  If a class is cancelled by Franklin Technology Center, a full refund will be given.  If an enrollee cancels or drops a class on or after the start date, see Student Handbook for Refund Policy.

  • Please note: We are an official AMCA test site and provide the opportunity to take a national certification exam at the end of the course. A high school diploma or GED/HiSET is required to be eligible to take the AMCA phlebotomy exam. Upon successful completion of this course, if you qualify and choose to do so, we will schedule an exam date following the end of the course. Any corresponding application, forms, and/or verifications will be due at this time.

    Leisa Harris - Medical Programs Coordinator

    Education: Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) earned through American Medical Technologist (AMT)

    National Certified Medical Office Assistant (NCMOA) earned through National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT)

    Certified Professional Coder (CPC) earned through American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC)

    Medical Assistant Teacher's Certificate earned through the State of Missouri

    Leisa joined Franklin Technology Center in 2001 as an instructor and the Externship Coordinator for the Medical Assistant program. She is currently the program coordinator for the Phlebotomy Technician, Certified Nursing Assistant, Certified Medication Technician, and Patient Care Technician programs. Leisa is also the Test Center Administrator for the the HiSET and Pearson VUE testing center. 

    One of Leisa's favorite duties as the program coordinator is meeting with prospective students and informing them about all of the great things FTC has to offer. One of the most rewarding aspects of her job is hearing from past graduates and learning how Franklin Tech has changed their lives for the better.

    LeAnn Cummins

    LeAnn Cummins- Phlebotomy Technician Instructor

    Education: LeAnn holds National Certifications in Phlebotomy Technician and Medical Assistant.

    LeAnn teaches the daytime Medical Assistant program and is the Coordinator for the CNA program. Her primary areas of teaching are Anatomy and Physiology, Clinical Procedures, Pharmacology, and Phlebotomy. 

    LeAnn enjoys training the students to draw blood, take vitals, and give injections. When students graduate from the program, she takes pride in knowing her students can perform the duties in the medical field.

    In her spare time she enjoys spending time with her husband doing outdoor activities. She has four children and two grandchildren.
