  • The CMT course prepares qualified candidates for employment as a Certified Medication Technician in intermediate care or skilled nursing facilities. The course consists of 60 classroom hours and 8 hours of clinical observation under the direct supervision of a licensed RN. The state’s final written state exam and final practicum state exam will be given at the end of the course. Prerequisites must be provided to Franklin Technology Center during the application process for approval prior to class beginning.

     

    Course Objectives

    This course has been organized around major units. Each unit is reflective of the objectives set forth for this course. At the completion of the course, the successful student shall be able to:

    • Prepare, administer, and document administration of medication by all routes except those administered by the parenteral route.
    • Observe, report, and document responses of residents to medications administered.
    • Identify responsibilities associated with acquisition, storage and security of medications.
    • Identify and utilize appropriate medication reference materials.
    • Observe, report and document responses of resident to medications.
    • Identify lines of authority and areas of responsibility.
    • Identify what constitutes a medication error.

     

    Upon successful completion of the Certified Medication Technician course, the student will: 

    • Earn a Certification of Completion through FTC Adult Education.
    • Be prepared to test for CMT credentialing through the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services.

  • To be considered for acceptance into the Certified Medication Technician course, interested individuals must:

     

    • Be a minimum of 18 years of age
    • Submit application form and tuition/course fees in full
    • Proof of high school diploma or HiSET/GED
    • Proof of current Tuberculosis test
    • Proof of registration with Family Care Safety Registry
    • Proof of minimum 6-month CNA employment
    • Proof of a clear criminal background check
    • Signed letter of recommendation from director of nursing or administrator of facility (on letterhead)
    • Not listed on MO DHSS Employee Disqualification List
    • Missouri CNA Registry standing must be active and does not have a Federal Indicator
  • 18 YEARS OF AGE

    NO MAJOR FELONY CONVICTIONS

     

    *Disclaimer: The program and courses require a minimum number of students in order for the classes to be offered.

    1. Tuition and course fees of $775.
    2. Students are required to wear scrubs at their own expense (no specific color or pattern). Scrubs must be worn during all classes, clinical training, and testing.
    3. Complete 60 hours of in-class instruction and 8 hours of supervised clinical training in a state-authorized facility plus a final written examination and final practicum examination.
    4. This course is not eligible for financial aid.
    5. 100% attendance is required.
    6. Refund Policy: If a class is cancelled by Franklin Technology Center, a full refund will be given. If an enrollee cancels or drops a class on or after the start date, see Student Handbook for Refund Policy.
  • Quality classroom instruction combined with hands-on experience is provided during the 68-hour Certified Medication Technician course.

    Leisa Harris - Medical Programs Coordinator

    Education: Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) earned through American Medical Technologist (AMT)

    National Certified Medical Office Assistant (NCMOA) earned through National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT)

    Certified Professional Coder (CPC) earned through American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC)

    Medical Assistant Teacher's Certificate earned through the State of Missouri

    Leisa joined Franklin Technology Center in 2001 as an instructor and the Externship Coordinator for the Medical Assistant program. She is currently the program coordinator for the Phlebotomy Technician, Certified Nursing Assistant, Certified Medication Technician, and Patient Care Technician programs. Leisa is also the Test Center Administrator for the the HiSET and Pearson VUE testing center. 

    One of Leisa's favorite duties as the program coordinator is meeting with prospective students and informing them about all of the great things FTC has to offer. One of the most rewarding aspects of her job is hearing from past graduates and learning how Franklin Tech has changed their lives for the better.

    Amy Price

    Amy Price - Practical Nursing Instructor/CMT Instructor

    Education: Pittsburg State University- BSN

    Amy Price, RN has been a nurse for 19 years. Throughout those years she has worked in critical care, pediatric, home health, and school nursing. Growing up she always knew she would either be a nurse or a teacher. She now has the best of both worlds. She has always enjoyed learning and is excited to share her love of nursing with her students. She graduated with her BSN from Pittsburg State University and will be instructing pharmacology, maternity, and pediatrics.

    Amy has been married for 18 years and has 2 children. In her spare time she enjoys attending their activities, reading, and traveling.
